Adams Morgan is named after two prominent schools in the area: the Adams School and the Morgan School. The Adams School was named after John Quincy Adams, the sixth president of the United States, while the Morgan School was named after John Pierpont Morgan, a wealthy American financier and banker. In 1956, the two schools were combined to form the Adams-Morgan School. Over time, the name Adams-Morgan came to be used to refer to the surrounding neighborhood, eventually becoming the official name of the area.
